ROY WOOD$ ENDED 2016 ON A WHOLE NEW LEAF–THANK GOD!!!!
OVO has been making strides this year for Canadian rapper, Roy Wood$. After recently being signed to OVO Sound record label founded by Drake, Oliver El-Khatib, and long-time producer Noah “40” Shebib in 2012, Wood$ has dropped his third project under the label. His first two outbreak albums were, for lack of better word, subpar/terrible. It may be the whole “Canadian-emo vibe” that, us, American’s can’t really get jiggy with. Drake has his moments but treads that line very lightly with a few catchy beats and popping features.
Word must’ve got back to Wood$ and his team after he released Exis, in 2105 and, then, Waking at Dawn in July of 2016 that he needed to cut the melodramatics on his next project.
Wood$ has a very unique sound that you can’t really categorize. He’s not quiet “trap” enough to be labeled as a TrapSoul artist; he isn’t the alternative R&B guy either; nor is he the avid hipster type. Whatever his genre–Wood$ new EP, released two weeks ago, with seven amazing tracks, with features with his OVO brother Majid Jordan and an appearance from MadeinTYO was nothing less than FIRE.
The production of the EP was evident and carefully pieced; including the song selection. The only bad things about the EP merely stem from the memory of how terrible his first two projects were.
NICE WORK WOOD$
